Hi Sean
It would be most unlikley that you could set up a commercial marron farm in your back yard due to the area needed (5-10 ha of production ponds plus a large volume water supply) but you could make it a very interesting hobby for home consumption using small tanks with the approprate filltration

Hi Sean - I might be able to help. I setup small scale fish farms capable of holding/growing marron. My website is www.suburbanfarmer.com.au, you cant find more information there.

You can make it work from home in the backyard. You would need good freshwater supplies, and able to contain this in ponds, with good flow rates, and install a wheel type air paddle. If you have access to stream water, where there are Marron naturally, this should help. Collect some broodstock from the wild, hold them seperately and when juveniles hatch and leave the parent, you can stock them in ponds. Partially feed with chopped liver, chopped carrots, etc. This feeding rate will depend on your stocking densities.
First try on an experimental basis. For commercial scale, much more work is necessary.
